A Fathers Woe

I wish I could have been there as you make your way through life,
To hold your hand and guide you, through troubled times and your strife.

I know I left you premature, With no chance to see you grow,
I missed so much, your younger times,
oh how I missed so much, I know.

It eats me up.
It rips at me.
It claws daily at my heart,
How me, your doting father has left us far apart.

I made mistakes within my life.
Think not bad of me, I dread.
But learn from me, don’t follow me.
In my footsteps please don’t tread.

Your growing up, your growing fast, a family of your own.
So please I pray, please learn from me.
Leave them not alone.
